BTW, my prayers to all those who are affected by Typhoon Bebeng. God will be good.
I’m referring to my newfound love. A pussy… kitten :D. Felis catus. And don’t worry, di ko nakalimutan.
It was all accidental and unexpected. I was not ready but I did all to give the poor kitty urgent care. I consulted the internet for tips and advices for orphaned kittens. I even asked Ms Jonna Baquillas (who owns two lovely cats named Qish and Rue) for help and she immediately responded (salamat po, Ms Jonna 🙂 ). She gave me useful links. First thing I looked for was a box to contain the kitten.
Cute niya no? I actually thought “Amihan” (named after Iza Calzado’s famous character from Encantadia) at first pero dahil napakamemorable ng pagtatagpo namin, I chose “Bebeng” 🙂
One of the most important things about taking care of an orphaned kitten is what will be fed on it. Honestly, nahirapan ako rito dahil I learned from what I read na hindi pala pwede ang cow’s milk lang dahil baka magsuffer ng diarrhea ang kuting (cow’s milk contains lactose that cat’s don’t have proper enzymes for breaking down the sugar compound from the milk). So I must make my own KMR or Kitten Milk Replacement. I consulted for the recommended concoctions on the internet and had a hard time making one. I had to find alternative ingredients since most of the stuff couldn’t be found in our kitchen. Ayun, I made my own KMR consisting of sterilized milk + yolks of eggs + tiny drop of palm oil + tiny drop of infant multivitamin supplement. The smell is kinda rancid (WOW, WORD OF THE DAY, MGA KAIBIGAN!) because of the yolks and vitamin syrup but I need to feed Bebeng. Medyo nahirapan ako magpakain kasi I only relied on syringe (don’t worry, hindi kasama yung mismong needle, ano siya, drug addict???) and it has no nipple to be sucked on. There are times na naggagag siya pero eventually I learned how to feed her properly. And take note, regular feeding! Minsan, I woke up early morning just to feed her. Naks, tatay na tatay na ako haha!
I also made her feel warm since she needs it in order to grow and feel comfortable. Aside from usual hot compress (thanks to my sis nurse at may silbi ang mga extra hospital gamit niya), I use desk lamp to keep her warm. Look, she’s so tiny!!!
And also the challenging part: making her poop and urinate! I learned the technique by stimulating the are where her private parts and anal area are with a piece of moist cotton (to mimic the way the mother cats licks that part). That’s gross :D.
I even decided to bring Bebeng at a vet. I looked for vet clinics nearby but I couldn’t decide. Good thing, I asked Rachel Mutia for help since taga BF Homes Parañaque siya and also a cat owner din, She recommended Happy Hayop located inside the village and luckily pupunta rin siya nun. So I said sabay na lang kami pumunta at para makita ko rin yung alaga niyang pusa na si Fuzz. The next day, I was so excited that I left the battery of my camera (para mapicturan ko si Bebeng habang nagpapacheckup) and arrived too early. I was shy at first but Rachel insisted I must go inside dahil mainit (oo nga naman, maiinit talaga). The people of Happy Hayop was very accomodating. I forgot the name of the lady who assisted me and gave advices. Anyway, she told me proper care tips and adviced me to bring Bebeng again after 3 weeks kasi she’s too young pa. And the best part is I wasn’t charged at all! Free consultation :).
Pero it’s a good way to practice parenthood. Habang wala pa akong sariling pamilya, mag-aalaga muna ako ng pet. Challenging. Tough. But worth it. I’m so happy that most of my friends support me and Bebeng. Keep your support and prayers coming :). I’ll keep you updated about her. I can’t wait for her to grow up 🙂
JOKE :D.
Hot like Mexico, rejoice!
