Marso 8, 2011 ni theairprince
Parang tribo lang eh no? Haha!
Last week was my dear alma mater’s College Week 2011 together with its 20th anniversary celebration (Cheers to the Rams!). Too bad I was so sick that I had to indulge in water and lots of sleep. I wasn’t able to watch APC Idol Season 8 on the 4th day (Sorry, Explo huhu) but at least I was able to come to school on the last day of the college week for Mr & Ms APC 2011. I can’t miss one of the most awaited events in school so I was praying that I would be fine while still recovering from flu.
For the second time, Junior Philippine Computer Society of APC was the organizer of the 5th annual pageant. This year’s pageant was all about festival. No, hindi Festival Mal :D. The theme focused on vibrant and colorful fiestas here in our country. Bahay Bombilya was tapped for the promotion of the pageant. As you can see in the poster above, the contestants wore face paints to evoke the carnival and festive feeling. And I’m very proud to be part of this production. I even had two contestants to paint on their faces (Federico Fernandez and Cassandra Neria, both from SoCSIT). And honestly, nakakainggit sila that I had to convince someone to paint my face but there was no enough time.
I had to pass my responsibility and give opportunity to others. For the past few years, I had been the ‘pageant photographer’ at school. Kumbaga nakagawa ako ng tatak at legacy when it comes to pageants. But sometimes good things come to an end. And I believe that having them as the prime sponsor for the pictorials is both an advantage and opportunity. Plus, activity ito ng Bahay Bombilya and it is a great time for them to practice their skills and experience what production is all about 🙂 And I have faith on them. Kaya I’m very happy and proud that they were asked to shoot for the contestants. They even showed me their plans and super namangha ako. Talagang pinaghandaan nila 🙂 Syempre, I lent my expertise (naks) to them by giving advices both on the production team and the models. In short, ako ang nagsilbing tagapayo dahil nakakatanda. Haha 🙂
Unfortunately, I was only able to attend 1 of the 3 scheduled pictorials (Yes! 3 photoshoots just for 1 pageant!). The face paint theme is the only pictorial that I did assist. I had a seminar during the 2nd pictorial and I suddenly became not feeling well for the 3rd one. But this didn’t discourage me to ask for updates and still give pieces of advices via the group’s Facebook ‘secret’ page. Yun nga lang I missed the fun experience during the shoots. Kahit nakakapagod, masaya and I can prove that!
Some of the contestants are already familiar to me. They had been part of the contests of their respective schools (college departments) like Bam, Lala, Fed, and Cass (from Mr and Ms CSIT 2010); Hazel, Mitch, and Roxy (from Mr and Ms SoAB 2010), and Lach (from Make Me a SOEModel Season 2). I worked with Joey during Mr and Ms IECEP -EMMSC 2009 when he was still a BS ECE student. Yung iba ngayon ko lang nakilala like Rafi (from SoAB), Russel, Yna, Keisha, and JC (all from SoMA).
Since kelangan kong makabawi sa kanilang lahat, I decided to come even if I was not sure if I fully recovered. So I brought a blister of medicine and my handy water jug just in case. I arrived there at around 10 am. As soon as I entered school, pakiramdam ko new student ako. Most of the people I knew greeted me. Yung iba pa nga inaalok ako ng mga kung anu-ano in the spirit of college week :D.
I rushed to the school auditorium para kamustahin sila. There were still final preparations to do particularly on stage decorations so I helped them para makabawi naman ako. I cut styrofoam letters and had them glittered. We had few hours before the main event but thank God we managed to put up everything in time. And for the very first time, it was the first automated pageant sa history ng APC. 5 mini laptops were installed for the judges and wired to the main unit for tabulations.
And the moment finally arrived. Jampacked ang school auditorium that most of the people had to seat on the floor and occupy the aisles. It may started a bit late (Pero kung tutuusin, napakaaga ng pageant unlike previous events. It started at around 4 PM!). There was the introduction portion wherein the contestants wore theme wear inspired by different Philippine festivals. Everyone cheered for their bets. Basta sigawan ang audience. Ako naman parang walang sakit sa kakasigaw at cheer for each contestants. Nakakatuwa kasi all schools of APC may taga cheer among the crowd.
There’s also audio visual presentations prepared by Bahay Bombilya. May nagjoke pa nga sa likuran ko while watching them. Sabi ‘tinadtad ng AVPs’ 😀 And sabi ko naman ‘hayaan na dahil walang ganyan noong nakaraan’ 😀 Pero it worked naman since it gave time for the contestants while changing outfits. I love the simplicity and straight forward layout of the series 🙂
The contestants battled for summer wear. Like last year, the usual casual wear was replaced by summer wear. Haha!
Natuwa ako sa production number with APC Dance Company. To the tune of Black Eyed Peas “The Time – Dirty Bit”, they turned the stage into a dancefloor. Each of partners showed a unique gimmick.
There were also performances by APC Idol Season 8 runner-ups, SoMA’s singing sensation Belle Dinglasa and the newest crush ng bayan, Alden Policar; one of APC SAMS ambassadors, Kim Reyes with the APC Band; Jannine Navarro (APC Idol Season 7 winner) and Master Beatbox machine Chugs Jaudian; and also Ena Sugon, APC Idol’s grand champion (that she had to perform solo since Mark More couldn’t make it).
But my favorite part was the Question and Answer portion. Some of the contestants were nervous and went blank but managed to give a decent answers. Other delivered great and wowed the audience. I even learned that they underwent a Speech Pathology session. Sila na! 😀 This is the 3rd time, if I’m not mistaken, that a speech coaching session was offered to a pageant 🙂 So far, wala namang nagkandaleche-leche sa pagsagot. Walang kinantsawan ng audience unlike during past years na medyo hindi maganda ang behavior ng audience.
And it was down to Top 5 pairs. They were asked once again during the Final Question and Answer portion. Nakakakaba itong part. They had the same question about what is the most important lesson that we should learn. Dito karamihan mas bumilib sa mga contestants because of their unforgettable and inspiring answers. The answers revolved around love, faith, responsibility, being grateful for every blessings, and education. Praise the Lord! 🙂
Finally, winners were announced after a tough deliberation. I was decided that the new Mr and Ms APC were Mitch (from SoAB) and Keisha (from SoMA). The 2 consecutive winning streak of SoCSIT (2009 by Chester Cabrera-Trish Fernandez and 2010 by Joemar De Vera-Kiara Apolonio) has been ended. Joey and Roxy were 1st runner-ups while Bam and Yna became 2nd runner-ups 🙂
Nakangiti at masaya ako mula umpisa hanggang matapos.
Congratulations to all of you. Pero lahat kayo winners for me 🙂 I hope hindi niyo makakalimutan ang isa’t isa. Be a role model for our school mates, kahit hindi or hindi pa kayo part ng APC Student Ambassadors and Models 🙂 Diba, noong una nahihiya pa kayo sumali pero now, you’re asking for more pictorials? Ganun kasaya talaga and I’m sure you agree with me 🙂
Salamat sa JPCS (Joanne Camille, Dianne, Rocelle, Mon, Chaniel, Nissa, Lac, David, Krisa, Mike, Christine, Summer… at si Clint!), Bahay Bombilya (Boss Nino, Oliver, Aronn, BB kids, at the rest of the gang), at sa contestants (Mitch, Hazel, Russel, Yna, JC, Keisha, Joey, LAch, Fed, Cass, Roxy, Rafi, Bam, and Lala).
